Political or Not

This blog has so little to do with politics really. I apologize for misleading anyone. I have my political opinions of course, but they don't make me feel that I am right and anyone who has a differing opinion is, by default, wrong. I don't want to fight with anyone, persuade or convince anyone, and certainly not, change anyone. It wouldn't happen even if I did, we change ourselves, not others.
I don't care if you see the world, its problems and its solutions differently than I do. Its not a threat to me. You're supposed to. We had different sets of experience, different ideas about what is meaningful and what really matters, different personalities and proclivities, different programs embedded into the fabric of our DNA by the parents and the society that raised us. Even our religious beliefs which we fight and kill over. I was born in America in the 1940's. I was raised to be a Christian, its the most comfortable "religious" fit for me. Tho I am really not particularly religious at all, as I think all dogma is terribly distorted and hardly representative of its prophet. If I had been born in another corner of the world, I would align myself with another religion, or none, if I was really enlightened. Spirituality has everything to do with God and nothing to do with man's religions.
I watch a great deal of news programs and am a fairly well informed citizen, but I just don't feel that politics as they are inherently played out, wars, or religious judgments are solutions to our global problems....those are problems that go to the very heart of humanity world wide. No war, no amount of killing can fix that kind of damage.
If we were to apply one rule, just one simple law of the land, extremely uncomplicated and hard to confuse, we would solve most of the worlds problems. And that simple, uncomplicated, instruction, not hidden by parable, allegory or metaphor, but straight forward and clear...."Do unto others as you would have them do unto you, " is rarely applied, and not often suggested. We don't usually teach our children the golden rule, its too simple. We would rather champion their greed and their right to consume, their right to be angry, to challenge, to fight, to dominate and to win, at someone else's expense. And then we wonder why our world is in the shape its in.
So as you can see, I'm really not a political blogger. I'm a writer of prose and poetry and song. I would much rather concentrate on beauty, and we would all have to agree that there is not too much of that to be found between the lines on your average, everyday political blog of hate and decension, and self righteousness.
So I just posted a new poem, but like so many of mine, it leaves me naked, so I buried it on "Mystery, Madness & Musings" rather than put it out here on the front page:-)

Wild & Unrelenting

I still borrow your image in the darkness
laying it across the proficiency of my fingers
weaving a fantasy with the loom of longing.
A wild and unrelenting storm I am
in the quiet that awaits dawn.
Satiated with satisfaction ;
a spent frame quivering like a bow. You
play me to perfection with my own touch.
In spellbinding creativity you wave your ebony magic
across my ivory intention and I spill the rain
of long overdue tears.

Trembling I am
calling the black hand from the lake of midnight.
Moon shadows and mad meanderings
awaken dark mysterious depths,
prying open my yesterdays
with the creeping hand of secrecy,
crawling along the flesh of my imagination ,
the rawness of my need.

Come, I call you, come to me, my hand is waiting.
Wild and unrelenting fingers aching.....
Let me borrow your image in the darkness
One more time.

All Of The Days

Sitting in the center
of my own quiet hour
where only the minute matters;
ticking seconds of a life on loan
pass by like the rapid fire of summer
racing to embrace her fall's rest,
and this cumbersome weight of years
turns with the soft rhythm of a clocks hands,
effortlessly lifted in Praise
of all the seasons and all the days.

My Offering

...I am making an offering of my words,
dropping them into the collection plate of life
as it passes,
hoping they will seed goodness.

I added this political blog a few years ago, hoping to have a respectful dialogue with people of like and different persuasions in regards to the war and various political issues. As you can see I never kept it up as I came to believe that it is near impossible to achieve that climate of listening and respecting people who see the situations at hand and their solutions so differently. That has only been reinforced with the passing of the years.
I find it very troubling that people are so unkind and disrespectful of the office of President. Perhaps that is because I am old enough to have been taught that our country has a two party system. When it comes time to elect a President every four years you take your little self to the poll and vote for the person you feel (based solely on your experience and perception) will do the best job. Your choice is going to be the person who supports your issues and agendas, and your pocketbook. One person will win and one will lose. The winner is the President of the UNITED States of America, and all its people. That commands a certain degree of respect.
Indeed it bothers me greatly that we have overwhelmingly elected a man President in a time of national crisis on ever so many levels, and we won't allow him to put forth his efforts to rectify the problems we collectively face. I believe in having an oppositional party but I do not believe in opposing and hampering a leader in everything he sets about to do.
That said, you can see why I have little interest in writing about Politics. People don't listen well to one another, they simply fight, and tear down. Greed, corruption, everyone for himself at the expense of another has gotten us to where we are...and in my humble opinion its a MESS.

Opinions solicited

I believe that peace begins with me and so does bi-partisian communication. We are at war to preserve and to spread democracy. In a democracy we can choose our party affiliation and do so based on our experience and our personal perception of the world we live in. I happen to be a registered democrat. I also happen to have my best political discussions with a Republican, evangelical friend in Texas of all places :-). I love my friend, I don't think of her as "they". In fact thru our courageous and candid sharing we have come to realize that we share many more ideas and hopes and dreams than we have differences. Why is it that human beings seem to focus on differences rather than commonalities? WE do that with different races and cultures, different religions, even different sexes. In is our humanity that connects us, our sense of brotherhood that makes us one.
My question for the day......WE know now there are no WMD's and no direct connection to Saddam Hussein and 911. So given that fact, President Bush still maintains it was the right thing to do to Invade Iraq and that with all he's knows and all that has transpired he would do everything the same. That means he would go before congress, before the American people (you & me alike) and the world body and ask for their support to unilaterally invade a country because its leader was a very bad man, who treated his people very badly and once had and used biological weapons on them...10 years ago. He has not had any weapons since the '91 invasion. He has (had) 2 evil sons who propagated his rein of terror with him. He had no air force to threaten anyone with, no means of threatening anyone beyond his own borders really...but he was a very bad dude with evil intentions. Would our President really have presented those facts as reason to invade a country and send our men and women into harms way. WOuld anyone have voted to let him? I don't think so. Kim Jung Ill, and the Mullahs of Iran have mmore to threaten the world with than old Saddam did. I invite any and all comments and promise to read them with interest and respect.....the gmekeepr
